It’s pretty hard not to see the advertising and is somewhat over-hyped with words like ‘nasal delivery technology’ – ok, so you spray it up your nose – but does it work? Should you consider using it?

Nasal spray products are sprayed directly into the nose and absorbed directly into the bloodstream. The idea behind this is that lower doses of drugs are needed and the effect is very fast. Nasal delivery treatments are generally delivered under a long-term program using prescription medicines.

Clomipramine, also known as Anafrinil, is the drug that is mainly used in these nose sprays, and is an antidepressant. Other anti-depressants that have been used are fluoxetine (Prozac) and sertraline (Lustral).

Be aware that in some countries, antidepressants are sold illegally for premature ejaculation, or as ‘last-longer’ pills. These are prescription only drugs, so you should always talk to your doctor before trying any drugs to treat premature ejaculation.
